The film opening shows us a stranger locked up in an interrogation room with a small kitty cat. When questioned as to who he is, he answers that he is, in fact, a Nobody. We are then shown flashbacks, telling us that the man’s name is Hutch (Bob Odenkirk), and he lives in the suburbs with his wife, son, and daughter. We get an insight into Hutch’s daily life, seeing what happens from the moment he wakes up, his interactions with his family, going to work for his father-in-law and being stuck on a computer, and drinking lots of coffee. Life for Hutch overall is dull and repetitive. His family members are also quite distant from him, especially when it comes to romance or affection from his wife.
One night, two thieves break into Hutch’s home while his family are in bed. Hutch hesitates at defending his family for unknown reasons, and the two thieves run off, leaving him feeling annoyed at himself and frustrated for letting his family down. But it turns out that Hutch has past skills, which are about to be reignited. He equips himself with weapons, and thirsty for revenge, heads out to deal with any who stand in his way, including those who threatened his family.
Ben Odenkirk as Hutch is brilliant. Not only does the actor deliver fun and brainless action sequences, but the actor also delivers many fun and witty one-liners. The concept of seeing a character down on his luck and snapping into something lethal is nothing new on-screen, but thanks to Ben Odenkirk, there is a certain freshness. The supporting cast was also fun and surprising. Joining Hutch on his journey of revenge is his father, played by Christopher Lloyd. While watching, it’s obvious the actor is having a great time killing the bad guys too.
Action scenes are fun, bringing a new level of excitement to those seeking a good time. I was amazed at how much fun I had watching the action. Some moments honestly had me shocked and surprised, or I found myself laughing and having a great time.
The film’s soundtrack is worth mentioning. The musical score includes many well-known jazz tracks that felt fitting and added to the film’s style and humour. The sound effects are incredibly pleasing, especially when it comes to the action sequences. The audio track certainly never disappointed me.
Overall, Nobody delivers what movie lovers expected and wanted, which is a darn good time. The film provides brainless fresh action, which is pleasing from start to finish. Actor Ben Odenkirk exceeded my expectation as an action star, and the actor, to his credit, is compelling on-screen when delivering both stunts and humour. Nobody is a fun film many will enjoy and comes highly recommended for those who have enjoyed other action flicks such as John Wick.
