In the underground sewers of London, two workers named Arthur (Ken Campbell) and George (Vas Blackwood) are conducting routine checks to ensure there are no blockages or issues. While navigating through the dark sewage, Arthur makes an unexpected discovery: an unexplored tunnel. Suddenly, George hears strange noises and decides to investigate, only to find that Arthur has been severely injured and is in fear for his life. Amid this chaos, George spots another survivor who is desperately seeking help. Unfortunately, he cannot save her, and someone or something pulls the mysterious woman into the darkness.
While Kate (Franka Potente) is at a party with her friends, she reveals to her conversation partner that she knows the whereabouts of celebrity George Clooney, who is currently in London. Kate is hoping to meet the handsome actor in person. When Kate leaves the party, she opts to travel by train. However, having drunk too much at the party, she falls asleep at the station. When Kate wakes up, she is shocked to discover she is completely alone- no staff or other passengers can be seen. The station has been locked up for the night, and she is trapped inside with no way out. She also discovers that one of her co-workers, Guy (Jeremy Sheffield), is also in the station with her and has lustful intentions. But Guy is the least of Kate’s problems. There is something far more frightening, horrifying, and creepy within the station. Can Kate find a way to escape the station before it is too late?

Creep is a horror film. Given the nature of the kills and the mystery surrounding the creature in the tunnels, it can also be categorised as slasher horror. The film incorporates various elements of mystery and thriller, mostly involving the villain. Questions arise about where he came from and who he is. This film was co-written and directed by Christopher Smith, whose previous works include Severance (2006), Black Death (2010), and the all-time favourite Triangle (2009).”
I am proud to announce that director Smith has once again delivered a fun film with effective horror elements. The kills are gruesome and bloody, which adds to the overall impact. I particularly enjoyed the idea that the film’s threat is entirely unknown and mysterious. As various killings unfold, viewers are left in the dark about what is causing all the chaos and horror underground. The film’s setting, which includes tunnels, sewage systems, and train stations, serves as a solid backdrop, adding to the dark, cold, and gritty atmosphere. Additionally, I must commend Sean Harris’s performance; he is completely unrecognisable in this role and delivers the best performance in the entire film.

Although the film takes a while to get started, it truly elevates itself once Kate finds herself trapped underground with a mysterious killer nearby. I became invested and excited to discover who the killer was and whether Kate would find a way to escape the nightmare she had fallen into. Kate is likable as a character, as is Franka Potente’s performance, in which she portrays a character removed from her usual roles. However, the side characters often come across as silly, making countless poor choices, and the outcomes are frequently predictable. While the kills are apparent, the overall story is not. Even more surprising is that after all the chaos and horror, the film delivers a heartfelt message that remains relevant today.
Overall, writer and director Christopher Smith delivers a horrifying, gripping, and entertaining film with a touching message. The setting of sewage tunnels and train stations is an excellent backdrop for a horror film, amplifying the dark, cold, and eerie atmosphere. The film’s antagonist, Sean Harris, is perfectly cast and delivers an unforgettable performance in this chilling role. Once the plot got underway, I was captivated and eager to see how the story would unfold. I was especially intrigued by the mystery surrounding the killer. Creep is a thrilling ride filled with significant elements of horror, violence, and gore. If you have not seen Creep yet and are looking for a film with a strong creepy concept, I highly recommend adding it to your watchlist today.
