Nanu Nanu! Mork (Robin Williams) is an alien from the planet Ork. He’s well known for being loud, quirky and quick to deliver several one-liners. While his leaders aren’t overly fond of Mork and his cheeky nature, they require him for a mission unlike any other. Mork is required to travel to Earth and study the unknown race known as humans.
He’s sent to Colorado in a spaceship that looks like a giant egg and lands near a massive rock. Upon landing, Mork soon meets a lovely and kind college student named Mindy (Pam Dawber). The two meet and strike up a pleasant conversation. From this introduction, it’s not long until Mindy invites Mork to live with her and share many wacky and crazy adventures. Naturally, Mindy is clueless that Mork is an alien from Ork but takes joy in his company, his randomness and his puppy dog-like nature. Will Mindy ever find out about Mork’s true identity? Will the two ever strike up a romantic relationship?
Mork and Mindy were initially treated as a spin-off series from the top-rated TV series Happy Days. Mork & Mindy is nothing but pure fun and light-hearted entertainment. The series never takes itself seriously, and it’s a show that reminds audiences that anything can happen and nothing is off-limits. One example of this concept is an episode where Mork wants to know more about becoming a man and being cool, so he travels to visit Arthur Fonzarelli, aka ‘The Fonz’, a well-known character from TV series Happy Days.
Naturally, the best element about Mork & Mindy is Robin Williams’s performance, who plays the alien Mork from Ork. For Robin Williams, this is the TV series that launched his career into full speed. Robin Williams is terrific as an Alien. He’s fast and quick with his one-liners and continues to surprise the audience with every line he delivers. While actress Pam Dawber, who plays Mindy, doesn’t offer anything overly funny, her reactions and responses to Robin Williams’s onset shenanigans are equally skilled and pleasing. The two worked so well together that Mork & Mindy gave the world a total of ninety-two episodes over four seasons.
Overall, if you’ve never seen an episode of Mork & Mindy, you’re missing out. With the late Robin Williams and actress Pam Dawber’s stunning performances, the two bring something unique and unforgettable to TV comedy. Robin Williams is a significant highlight here as he plays Mork from Ork, and I’m not surprised that this series launched the actor into the superstar fame that many movie lovers will never forget.
