A group of terrorists take control of a stadium during a major soccer match. People in the crowd have no idea that terrorists are now holding them hostage as the game is on. As the terrorists make demands of the outside world while hiding in the arena, an ex-soldier with deadly skills named Michael (Dave Bautista). Soon discovers suspicious activity and decides to take matters into his own hands, trying to save the lives of many and take down the bad guys one by one.
Does the plot sound familiar? It should be. Straight away, this idea is nothing new when it comes to the world of cinema. Movies such as “Did Hard” (1988) or “Sudden Death” (1995) are just a few films that are somewhat similar to this one.
What makes it different is having our lead character played by Dave Bautista, who manages to bring a new tone to the film and is generally giving a high performance which is fun for the viewer.
Our terrorists, on the other hand, are very cheesy and cliche. The plot and storyline as to why the terrorists take over a soccer stadium is rather weak, and some viewers may find it somewhat confusing.
Actor Pierce Brosnan also makes an appearance in the film. For the sake of spoilers, I won’t mention much about him other than the fact his presence here felt forgettable. It’s also a long duration until Brosnan is present in the film. This misleading considering he is 2nd billed on the film’s poster and credits.
The action throughout the film is B Grade, but again, it is cheesy and fun. Watching Motorbikes ride around the soccer stadium and other action scenes like this are creative and brainless for a film. Movies like these are perfect for a group of friends to laugh and cheer along to in a lounge room on a Friday night.
Overall, Final Score is a brainless (and fun) action film. Actor Dave Bautista brings a fabulous presence as the lead role, but fans who love Pierce Brosnan will be disappointed by both his screen time and his character. Films like these are perfect when you’re in the mood for something entertaining and not too serious.
