Eli (Charlie Shotwell) is a young boy suffering from a type of immune disorder. While at home, he lives in a giant plastic bubble. In public, Eli has to wear something like a space suit to avoid germs and to get infections.

In the past, Eli has visited many doctors trying to get cured. His mother and father haven’t given up just yet. They have located a Doctor in an old mansion with an old facility underground who claims she can cure Eli once and for all. While the treatment is costly, Eli‘s parents agree. As Eli undergoes treatments, he feels there is something not right about the facility and also begins to see things he’s never seen before. Could this all be part of the curing process? Or the beginning of something else?

I enjoyed the film’s setup. It’s clear as a story that Eli has lived a life of sickness, and his current state is emotionally frustrated. His parents are also supportive and determined to do whatever it takes to cure him at any cost.

As a horror movie, it’s also surprising to see this film done with such a small cast and primarily filmed in one setting/location. The performance of Eli (Charlie Shotwell) is also pleasing for a young performer (although some may get sick of him yelling and screaming in the film- just saying).

For the plot, I can honestly say this film held my interest and attention right up until the film’s final reveal, and I was left feeling dissatisfied. And honestly, I’m still not 100% why but I have mixed feelings. Perhaps given the build-up of the plot, I expected something more rewarding or maybe the ending was a little too much to accept when I think about all the elements along the way. Either way, I can advise movies watchers that this is a brutal and tragic film, and many will be left shocked.

Overall, Eli brings a few positive horror elements to the screen such a solid cast and mysterious plot point to keep viewers going. But the film’s biggest let down is sadly the showdown and reveal. When I think about the movie from start to finish, the film doesn’t feel rewarding, and some parts were just not needed as a story nor make sense considering the final reveal.
