With their shelter and base ruined, the Abbott family have no choice but to pack a few remaining items and walk outside into the world once again. But it’s not long until they bump into more danger and troubles to overcome. Can the Abbott family find a place to keep quiet and safe? Thankfully, the family finds shelter with a lonely man inside, filled with hurt and suffering from all the events. Can this new stranger be trusted?
A Quiet Place (2018) was rated a solid 10/10 by Walkden Entertainment. As a sequel, this film was one of my most anticipated titles to see in cinema during 2021. The first film manages to deliver a new world and style of horror. The original was also filled with stunning and unforgettable performances and an audio track that left me speechless.
The good news is, A Quiet Place Part II is most certainly a worthy sequel. Once again, we have a film with incredible performances. The actors are pushing themselves to the next limit, especially young actors Millicent Simmonds & Marcus Abbot, who, even as characters, have a greater responsibility given the previous film’s events. Emily Blunt was also tremendous and, again, delivers. I also personally enjoyed the performance by Cillian Murphy, who brings a touching and yet mysterious performance to the screen.
Just like the previous instalment, the sequel is packed with amazing effects and tense moments. It’s called ‘A Quiet Place’ for a reason, and you can expect many silent moments that build towards something somewhat suspenseful. There are also plenty of moments that will shock and leave you speechless. Honestly, I did find perhaps two or three moments that did feel somewhat predictable. However, I felt like I knew what would occur for the vast majority, but then the film would always prove me wrong. I found myself taking deep breaths during this film’s tense moments, which in the end made the movie almost feel like a wild ride with my heart ready to jump out of my body.
As for the plot, I loved what the film does here as a sequel. Without major spoilers, I will state there’s an excellent expansion from the first film. We witness extraordinary and shocking moments for our leads to deal with, but we also learn more about the current state of the Earth and even gain a glimpse of what the alien invasion looked like to start with. The film also gives all the right nods as a sequel in pace, story, and character development, making all the ingredients more likeable and applaud-worthy. There are also minor nods and callbacks from the first film, which was pleasing and welcoming.
Overall, as a sequel, A Quiet Place Part II again delivers fresh moments of suspense, thrills and chills. The plot is filled with unpredictability and expands on both the world and its characters from the previous instalment. Performances are again outstanding and applaud worthy. The film’s audio track alone will have its audiences take a deep breath as if they are strapped in for a wild ride. As a sequel, this is far from just another cash grab, and it has a story and a vital element of passion and heart behind it. As a film, it’s also honourable to those who adored the first film (like me). A Quiet Place Part II comes highly recommended.
