Continuing from where we left Peter Parker (Tom Holland) and his close friends in Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019), the entire world now knows the secret identity of Spider-Man. Peter now spends his days dealing with the public, not to mention constant attention from the news and media. He tries to move forward with his life, but no matter what, he struggles to deal with the revelation of his identity, even more so when he sees how it affects his close friends. It’s now impossible for Peter Parker to walk down the street, attend school and live a normal life.
In desperate need of help, Peter pays a visit to fellow Avenger Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) with hopes that he might be able to reverse Mysterio’s announcement. But when Peter learns that everyone close to him will also have their mind erased, he mistakenly tampers with Doctor Strange’s spell, which has major consequences. Now many new villains roam on our Earth, and the question is, can Peter Parker save the day from the biggest threat his world has ever seen?
For the sake of spoilers, this review will be kept fairly vague when relating to further plot details. But I will cut to the chase and state I highly enjoyed the film. While I can’t deny the plot outline seems slightly lazy and silly, it was a fun way for fans of both Spider-Man and Marvel to travel down memory lane. No Way Home is packed (literally packed!) with many surprises, unexpected plot points, and multiple heartfelt moments that put a large smile on my face for the entire duration. It’s no secret the film includes many well known and familiar characters. Each character is truly exciting and breathtaking to see once again on the big screen. They are all given plenty of screen time, something that is guaranteed to please many.
Performances here are great. Tom Holland delivers what I feel is easily his best performance as the web-slinger and yet again brings both humour and dramatic moments to life. Side performances from Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange and Zendaya as MJ were also equally wonderful on-screen, and both bounce well off the leading web-slinger.
Visually, like all Marvel films, nothing can be faulted. Action scenes are filled with impressive visuals, and stunning fights scenes are easy to view. The pace can’t be faulted and moves so quickly that I didn’t even notice the film’s lengthy runtime. The audio track is again flawless, particularly when it comes to sound effects and instrumental musical scores.
Overall, as the most anticipated film for all Marvel and Spider-Man fans, I am excited to announce that this is a tremendous film. Filled with many exciting and breathtaking surprises, No Way Home is packed with a touching new story and great action sequences. Tom Holland himself delivers what I deem is his best version of the web-slinger to date. Treat this film as a wild theme park ride- you’ll clap, you’ll scream, you’ll smile, and, in the end, you’ll be left with the sensation that you could easily go again and again.
