Set in New York, our film follows Miles Morales. Miles is a young teenager who is failing in his classes and has a lack of passion for schoolwork, but a talent for art and the use of paint spray cans. He and his father are somewhat distant, and it’s evident that Miles admires Spider-Man as he sees what good he does daily within New York.

But things are about to change for Miles. Young Miles also gets bitten by a radioactive spider and becomes an alternative Spider-Man. He then bumps into a battle which involves the famous web-slinger himself and to make matters more interesting; Miles gets visited by a variety of Spider-Man’s, all from alternate universes.

I have many praises for this film, but don’t be worried- I won’t spoil any significant plot details. The animation here is unlike anything else I’ve seen in cinemas before. This is, without a doubt, the best comic book style film I have EVER seen. The animation itself is truly a work of art. Because it was so different, I will admit I found myself adjusting to this new look for the first 5 – 10mins. Anyone who has read a comic will genuinely appreciate the film’s style and the efforts made to bring one of the greatest superheroes to life. There are even minor details in each of the character’s faces, such as faint dot markings (Benday dots) which again looks just like what we would see in a comic book.

The plot is creative, exciting and not to mention, unique. If you’ve seen any previous Spider-Man films, there is a lot to connect with. I would also suggest that if you wanted to, fans could go along with the idea that this is a 4th film to Sony’s Toby Maguire Spider-Man films, or just treat it as a stand-alone film. But, as far as the plot, I was surprised and genuinely touched by how many heartfelt moments this film brought to life. These moments are not just typical cheesy one-liners, but the themes were unexpected, and I feel anyone and everyone can relate to them. Our film also does an outstanding job at staying true to the original Spider-Man stories, which is excellent for those who follow the comics. I haven’t read many comics back in my day, but the world of characters is fun to watch, and in the end, I was left wanting to know more about these heroes and their origins.

Ok, let’s talk audio here, because I love a good film with a lively audio track. This is stellar audio track! I found myself laughing just at the film’s audio detail and the creative use of the audio tracks alone. Each music selection is used entirely to set up the tone for different character within the film. Once again, I’m confident Spider fans will adore it.

Overall, as the credits rolled, I was left feeling incredibly surprised. This film has plenty to be enjoyed by all movie lovers and by people of all ages. It’s loaded with plenty of proud moments for who those who have followed the previous films or comics, and even if you haven’t seen either one, you will still have a blast! With a plot that delivers many heartfelt moments and creative characters, not to mention a dynamic audio track, in the end, there’s not much not else to say other than “I recommend it”.
