Continuing on where we last left Paddington, our little bear presently lives peacefully as one the members of the Brown family. Paddington overdue time has also become rather popular and has gained new friends within his street and the community he encounters daily.
Paddington’s journey this time is an interesting one. While saving money to purchase the ideal present for his Aunt Lucy, Paddington is framed for a crime he didn’t commit and the gift he had eyed out for his Aunt has become… stolen! It’s up to the Brown family to work with Paddington to hopefully solve the crime and save Paddington from having a life in prison.
My honesty here may actually shock some of my fans, but I was rather surprised by the 1st film and found it rather innocent and enjoyable. The film also had many loveable characters and managed to sneak in a great story with good humour which worked for both young and old audiences. Thankfully, Paddington 2 increases these elements and also manages to create new characters who also help the existing characters’ developments in the series. I’m not talking just about our loveable bear, but all who he encounters around him too. For a kids film, I found Paddington’s daily mistakes and situations were unpredictable other than knowing in advance who the naughty villain was going to be (Phoenix Buchanan (played masterfully by Hugh Grant)). Paddington 2, in fact, is a better film than its previous instalment. In regards to everything from stunning visuals (and colour), a 7.1 audio track, increased story, there’s not much I can fault within this family entertainment film. Even Paddington’s overall look from the previous film has also improved.
Overall, Paddington 2 has returned to deliver a fun new flavour to the screen for all to enjoy. Sure it’s a kids family film, but I feel there’s lots to enjoy regardless of age or your familiarity of the character. There are not many family films in the world today that are made like this and overall comes strongly recommended.
