It’s time for the biggest event of the year. The Heeler family is having a wedding in their backyard for Uncle Rad’s (Patrick Brammall) and Aunt Frisky’s (Claudia O’Doherty) wedding. At the same time, The Heelers are dealing with massive changes, particularly with their home, and Bluey is struggling. However, when Aunt Frisky discovers a secret about Uncle Rad, it sets a new adventure in motion, particularly for Chilli, Bluey, Bingo, Muffin, and Socks. Can these girls save the wedding of the year? Will Bluey find a way to stop her home from being sold, or will she accept that some things in life are out of her hands?
The Sign successfully introduces a new kind of adventure for The Heelers, and there are plenty of great moments of comedy, romance, sadness, and, thankfully, huge reveals. All of these are a well-deserved follow-up to the heartbreaking cliffhanger of the previous episode titled Ghostbasket. Not only does this episode have many differences in the plot, but it’s also a first for the duration, running at twenty-eight minutes instead of the traditional seven. Thankfully, given all the excitement and fun presented in the new episode, the lengthy new runtime in this particular episode is welcomed and enjoyable. At no point did I feel bored or disengaged with the longer runtime.
This is easily the most significant Bluey episode yet for the Bluey characters! It includes the return of Aunt Brandy, voiced by Rose Byrne, as well as plenty of other surprising cameos from Joel Edgerton, Rove McManus, and Deborah Mailman. In addition to the stack of familiar faces, this episode includes plenty of Easter eggs and callbacks from previous episodes. There are so many that repeat reviewing is going to be required.
Overall, The Sign successfully introduces a whole new kind of adventure for The Heelers, and there are plenty of great moments of comedy, romance, heartfelt scenes and, thankfully, plenty of reveals and closure relating to previous episodes. Not only does this episode differ with its plot, but it’s also the first with a longer duration. This longer duration was a success, and the story was exciting enough that I never felt bored or uninterested. As the credits rolled, it was amazing that an animated feature left me so emotionally drained after the rewarding, touching conclusion. The Sign is a beautiful episode, and Bluey fans will treasure it forever.
