Dr Lewis (Dougray Scott) and his son Max who are travelling on a train late at night. The doctor is pressed for time as he is required to drop his son at his grandparents and then attend an urgent medical matter at the hospital where he works.

BUT!

The doctor’s plans for the evening are suddenly “derailed” when he and the small group of remaining passengers discover the train is no longer stopping at any of the stations, and it is speeding up. It’s now up to a small group of passengers to work together and either find a way off the train or stop the unknown train driver who is behind this evil plan.

One element I enjoyed with this film was the easy setup and introduction of its characters, including our leading hero. The information we are given about him (and others) is not force-fed to the audience, but more slowly introduced. And while I did enjoy how we were introduced to all the characters, sadly there are a couple of key actors who I found slightly annoying. The best element of this film is the performance provided by Dougray Scott.

As the runtime went by, I, never felt bored with the film’s pacing or length. Watching these characters working together and trying to figure out what’s going on with the train is fun to see. I would suggest for anyone watching this film to not take it seriously by picking out the technology that could have been used in today’s standards. As far as the audio and visuals are concerned, the film feels more like a B Grade (or midday movie kind of film), and if you have that expectation, there are elements here that can be enjoyed.

That being said, the film’s focus is with the characters located on the train and not the villain (aka the train driver). As far as a plot, there is never really any real insight as to why things are occurring to these people, things just happen. The primary plot is simply about the characters trying to stop the train or get off it, which is excellent, but I was hoping to know more about the reasoning behind it all.

Overall, Last Passenger is an entertaining and yet harmless B Grade film. It is a film which focuses more on its main characters and sadly ignores the reason for the crazy events happening during the night. Some characters were slightly annoying to me, but thankfully our leading hero played by Dougray Scott is not one of them. If you come across this film on TV or even digital, it’s worth your time. Last Passenger is far better than I initially expected.
