Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds), is experiencing a midlife crisis. After facing the rejection of his long-term dreams, things have only gotten worse for him. Wade is also struggling in his relationship with Vanessa (Morena Baccarin). Despite the challenges, the support and friendship of his closest friends keep him going. However, as Wade attempts to maintain his composure, his life is on the brink of significant change.
When members of the TVA kidnap Wade, he learns that his entire world is about to come to an end, including those dearest to him. With hopes of saving his world from destruction, Wade suits up again and begins looking for Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), whom he believes is his only hope. Little does Wade know that he’s in for more than he bargained for when he finds Wolverine. Can Deadpool and Wolverine work together to save the world, or will their differences and past destroy all hope for humanity?
If you’re unaware, Deadpool & Wolverine is a new instalment in the popular Marvel universe. Like the previous two Deadpool films, this latest instalment is directed by Shawn Levy. For fans of Deadpool and Wolverine, I’m happy to say that this film lives up to expectations and doesn’t disappoint.
While it has a simplistic storyline, it offers plenty of entertainment. Firstly, the action sequences are violent and gruesome. Multiple scenes contain brutal kills, and there is plenty of blood spillage. The jokes, once again delivered mainly by actor Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, are mostly on point. This includes moments where the actors break the fourth wall, making many jokes about past Marvel films and current world events surrounding the entertainment industry. Hugh Jackman as Wolverine reminds the world that he is still more than capable of bringing this character to life. Jackman delivers physicality and drama, showing us a Wolverine who is damaged by his past and filled with brokenness.
If you’re a fan of hidden easter eggs and pop culture references, you’ll love this movie. The cameos and appearances throughout the film are both thrilling and surprising. All these appearances kept me excited and cheering! The upbeat soundtrack also gives Deadpool & Wolverine a fun, celebratory vibe, making it feel like a wild party to rejoice in all of Marvel’s present and past.
Overall, the combination of Deadpool and Wolverine on screen is a sheer blast, especially for long-term Marvel fans. With a simple storyline and plenty of action, gags, and heartfelt drama, the film delivers what long-term fans want to experience. There are also plenty of Easter eggs and cameos, which I’m confident fans will enjoy and perhaps be shocked by. While some of the jokes in Deadpool banter can feel somewhat tiresome, the potty-mouthed superhero randomly breaking the fourth wall was a delight. Hugh Jackman shines excellently as Wolverine, showing both physicality and drama. The soundtrack is a huge crowd-pleaser. Marvel fans will love everything this film offers.
