Continuing on from where we last left our loveable Trolls, life is excellent for Queen Poppy and her fellow Trolls… until! The Queen of the Hard Rock Trolls begins to take over every Troll kingdom. Now the Pop Trolls will come together with a plan to not only save their Troll kingdom but all the Trolls around the entire world.
If you’ve seen the first Trolls film, featured back in 2016, you will generally know what to expect—lots of Trolls singing and random jokes that are typically delivered through one-liners. As a sequel, I enjoyed this film’s plot. The film introduces its audience to the idea that Queen Poppy and her kingdom are not the only Trolls in the world. We are introduced to a broader range of characters and different kinds of Trolls who are passionate about different music styles such as Rock, Classical, Techno, Country, and the list goes on.
Trolls World Tour is undoubtedly created to please young children, but thankfully there are jokes and references that many adults will find pleasing. For me, the film’s audio track was a highlight. Whenever the Trolls started a musical number, I found myself excited and loving hearing the different genres. I was surprised to hear some of the individual tracks that the film used, and I even found myself tapping my foot, having a great time. The film genuinely has an excellent audio mix. It also encourages a positive message which is great for young viewers. As you might expect, the animation is fantastic, and the film is filled with bright colours.
As a plot, Trolls World Tour is pretty straightforward and basic- perfect for a kid’s film. Poppy (Anna Kendrick) & Brach (Justin Timberlake) deliver consistent chemistry, just like in the previous film, with a few conflicts, which again is expected in a family film.
Overall, I’m surprised to confess this, but I generally enjoyed Trolls World Tour. The film has a fun, brainless plot which is filled with random gags for the whole family. I was also pleased that the film focused on different music genres and had a positive message for younger audiences. The visuals are fantastic, but I can’t deny I enjoyed the film’s audio track more, thanks to a mixed variety of musical numbers which appeared from start to finish.
