A military air force pilot, Rick (Sam Worthington) accepts a mission to be part of a new experiment, which involves “genetic evolution”. Rick is also joined by his wife and son who stay with him at a secret location. At it stands, Earth’s inhabitants are destroying Earth, and the success of this genetic evolution will save many lives by allowing them to begin life on another planet. While the film is called “The Titan”, I assure you this title has nothing to do with Sam Worthington’s previous films Clash of the Titans or Wrath of the Titans. W have a new film with zero connections.
The Titan is a creative sci-fi story. I enjoyed aspects of its story. The film quickly provided us with all the information of the mission’s urgency and all risks Rick will encounter in completing his task. The main character Rick isn’t alone in the test, and other people with different sets of skills have also are selected to participate. Once the film provides the introduction of the story and characters, the film moves along at a slow burn, falling downwards.
The film looks and appears rather dark, dull and uninteresting. Considering the film is set in the future with tech all around. I was overall disappointed by the look of the film. To makes matters worse, the film’s dialogue also strikes a low point as the film progresses forward. The film’s plot at multiple times is rather questionable and frustrating. For example, Rick is injected with unknown sources and simply allowed to return home, possibly becoming a major threat to his wife and child. Would a mission of such urgency allow this type of careless risks? I struggle to accept it.
Overall The Titan is a film that had me rather curious from the get-go but burns ever so slowly after the basic introductions to both plot and characters. By the time the film gains any interest once again, the credits roll down the screen. Good idea but it’s completed poorly, and the results are indeed forgettable.
