Actors James Warwick and Francesca Annis unite once again on screen to feature in another Agatha Christie series. But this time the leading actors are playing the famous Detective team known as Tommy (James Warwick) and Tuppence (Francesca Annis).
After my recent review of the TV movie, Why Didn’t They Ask Evans? another Agatha Christie story, I was quite excited when I heard the two actors would again return to the screen playing different roles but still in an Agatha Christie story. James Warwick and Francesca Annis had such great chemistry on-screen in the feature film Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?, and I am happy to report that nothing has changed when it comes to the performance from our leads in this series.
The TV series consists of 10 episodes. In Episode One, we are introduced to both leading characters who are seeking work and struggling to make ends meet. By chance, the two are hired to investigate a private matter which only leads to the both of them falling in love and eventually launching their very own Detective Agency. Each episode introduces a new mystery and a challenge for the two to face. Some of these mysteries include stolen items, haunted homes, missing people, and as one expects in an Agatha Christie TV series, Murder!

Thanks to Via Vision Entertainment, the recent DVD set includes the complete collection of all ten episodes along with the feature-length prequel introducing them, ‘The Secret Adversary’. The aspect ratio is 4:3 and consists of a 2.0 mono track which is to be expected given the age of the series. The image does show it’s age, but it was never a significant distraction that stopped me from enjoying the entire series from start to finish.
Overall, if you’re an Agatha Christie fan or if you’re seeking mysteries to uncover, this series shouldn’t be ignored. The top performances from both James Warwick and Francesca Annis are wonderful to see, and two have such an incredible connection whenever they share the screen. The dialogue is also fun, and I found the many mysteries quite unpredictable, which is undoubtedly a great feeling to have. Needless to say this is quite a pleasing whodunit series and will most definitely please many fans of Agatha Christie.
