We must have respect for all, and there shall be harm to none”. – Australian Aboriginal proverb
Night of Terror: A Family Trapped by Storm and Creature
When a devastating storm hits one night, a family and their home is in danger. The couple and their baby quickly attempt to flee the storm, escaping their home in search of safety. While they hurriedly pack various belongings and essentials, the father tries to conceal a minor artifact, but it falls to the floor, shocking the mother. Their night is far from over; instead, it gets worse as a mysterious monster or creature attacks them inside their home before they can flee.
Present Day Horror: Emily Confronts a Deadly Curse
Fast forward to the present day, and we follow Emily (Kylah Day), who carries a tragic past that affects her daily life, and one-on-one therapy sessions are not helping. Emily is currently moving in with her boyfriend Mark (Tom Jackson), yet she feels bad for leaving her father on his own. While unpacking her belongings at Mark’s house, she discovers an artifact that has been attached to a necklace. Given that it is possibly the last thing her mother ever touched, she decides to start wearing it. Unexpectedly, Emily begins to have horrible dreams, creepy visions, and hears faint whispers. Little does Emily know that she has just unleashed a curse and a creature that will attempt to take her life in exchange for her ancestor’s sins. Can Emily find a way to escape this curse and the mysterious red eye demon, or is it only a matter of time until it catches up to her?

Origins and Vision: From Short Film to Supernatural Horror
It Will Find You is a horror film with a strong supernatural aspect. The film is based on a short film of the same title, which was released in 2024. This new feature-length film has been written by Chris Broadbent and directed by both Chris Broadbent and Enzo Tedeschi. Personally, I was able to approach this film with fresh eyes, as I had not seen the short film it was originally based on.

Visuals, Performances, and Sound: Crafting a Chilling Experience
I loved the filming style and the overall presentation. Areas such as lighting were handled wonderfully, and the visuals were sharp, with camera movement that always felt both fitting and smooth. In terms of performance, Kylah Day was certainly fitting in the lead role. She delivered an excellent performance filled with trauma and drama. As the film progresses, she displays a tremendous amount of fear and concern, not just for herself but also for those around her who begin to suffer from this new evil spirit, later given the name Giniirr (played by Andrew Crawford). Although their screen time is limited, both Nicholas Hope and Aaron Pedersen bring an engaging on-screen presence, bringing excitement to the film. The score by Me-Lee Hay is also quite fitting, elevating moments of tension and becoming wonderfully epic whenever the film’s threat appears nearby.

Flaws and Frights: Pacing, Casting, and Horror Execution
While the leading performance is stellar, some supporting performances feel incongruent, and at times, the casting choices are questionable. This includes using an actor who is clearly far too young for the intended role. The pacing is often familiar and predictable due to its similarities to past films such as The Moogai, which also focused on an evil presence with a connection to family history. However, many reveals here feel obvious, and it takes a long time for various characters to discover information that the audience already understands. The jump scares were not effective during my first watch, although I am confident that at several moments, audiences will certainly jump in their cinema seats with fear. The kills are generally fine, but sadly, nothing is overly memorable, and character reactions are not always fitting, especially when they witness the brutal death of someone they know closely or love dearly.
