Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) returns with his witty and crude sense of humour. This time, Deadpool will protect a young mutant boy from an unknown traveller named “Cable” (Josh Brolin).
If you’re a fan of the first instalment, you will completely understand what to expect in this film. Thankfully, the sequel changes it fairly and keeps the series fresh and entertaining. The film’s plot, jokes and new characters, including the introduction of X-Force, are elements that add to the success and excitement of Deadpool 2. The film also brings back countless familiar faces from the previous film.
While Deadpool 2 is full of jokes, I’m surprised to announce the sequel manages to deliver more heart than the previous film. There are key moments where I thought to myself, ‘the actor Ryan Reynolds is delivering a pretty solid performance’. It can also feel like this performance is more from the heart as he’s not hiding behind the mask. As far as jokes go, yes, some tricks fall flat or go for too long, but considering how much humour is in the film, it can be overall forgivable as most jokes and one-liners are creative and do work very well.
The action sequences in Deadpool 2 are awesome and insane, and not to mention, the film has another outstanding film soundtrack. I’ll even be as bold as to say I enjoyed Celine Dion’s Deadpool theme song (yeah, I said it… I liked Celine Dion’s song!). I also personally experienced the many nods and jokes related to other films, such as other superhero movies (Batman and X-Men are just a few, to name).
Overall, Deadpool 2 is a fresh and worthy sequel. It’s fun, brainless, creative and surprisingly unpredictable as a film. Sure, the plot is rather basic, but people, it’s a Deadpool film- what did you expect? This is a no-brainer for anyone who is a fan of Marvel films or Deadpool as a character. Enjoy the fun and stay for the credits; waiting for the film credits is a huge must!
