A professor by the name of John Holden travels from America all the way to London. In London, the Professor was scheduled to attend a parapsychology conference but soon finds himself pulled into a scary investigation. You see, the man the Professor had planned to meet when he arrived in London was killed in a terrible accident. An accident which may or may not be related to an evil cult and its leader.

Professor John Holden does not seem to believe such evil is possible based on his experience but nevertheless he begins to investigate the possibilities and seems quite confident the answers are simple. Soon the Professor will find out a few more secrets, including an odd manuscript which appears to be cursed. Several other strange things begin to occur around the Professor which make him question if he is seeing things or perhaps if someone is just playing a dirty trick on him. The Professor will not only question everything he has ever experienced but also begins to question elements such as his faith and beliefs when it comes to good and evil in this world.

Luckily, the Professor is not alone with the investigation. Professor John Holden is joined by the niece of the man who recently died in the tragic accident. Her name is Joana Harrington and she too has her own beliefs and thoughts on what really happened to her Uncle. The two will team up and investigate to find the truth no matter how frightening the journey will be for both.

Thanks to Shock Entertainment this film has recently been re-released on Blu-ray and DVD. Like another recent release from Shock Entertainment, this release has also been given a very basic menu along with the standard 2.0 audio track. I did find the image quality here, considering it is in black and white, still quite satisfying for the most part. If you purchase this film on Blu-ray it is still the greatest way to enjoy this cinematic horror classic.

Night of the Demon is quite an unsettling horror film. This is not due to any level of gore or violence, but simply because of the way this film has been directed by Jacques Tourneur with the use of such creativeness. The film is also filled with tension and mysteries. The performances by Dana Andrews and Peggy Cummins were also pleasing even if the general chemistry between the two felt slightly fickle at times. I also found the film’s ending and final act extremely pleasing and the journey that I took from start to finish made me feel very impressed with this film, ultimately leaving me with a positive feeling.

Overall, this is a very pleasing classic horror film. The film’s setup is great and the number of mysteries is pleasing, all holding my attention for the entire duration. I also enjoyed the film’s horror elements which at the times did make me feel uncomfortable, a true credit the director along with the leading performances. This classic film is a must-watch for anyone seeking an old-fashioned horror tale.
