The two great ones Bill (Alex Winter) and Ted (Keanu Reeves) return to the big screen once again after their last bogus journey in 1991.  When we last saw Bill and Ted they were on their way to delivering a song that would change the world forever.  But we soon discover that in the present-day Bill and Ted were unsuccessful at ever creating that one song.  To make matters worse, Bill and Ted are now having marriage issues with their medieval princesses and are asked by their wives to start attending counselling sessions. Bill and Ted naturally feel frustrated and exhausted in life and are unsure as to how they will ever write the song that will one day unite the world.

Thankfully, Bill and Ted get a visitor from the future once again.  This visitor from the future advises the two Wild Stallions members that the world will come to an end unless their song comes together.  You see it’s no longer about Bill and Ted making a song that will bring peace and harmony. Bill and Ted now need to deliver a song that will save humanity and reality as we know it.  Thanks to technology and time travel, Bill And Ted decide to Face The Music and attempt to try and steal the hit song which will save the world from themselves in the future.

Growing up as a young teenager, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure was a big deal in my home and always a memorable comedy film.  The characters and the chemistry that Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves shared on-screen was still the major highlight of all the movies for me.  I also recall seeing Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey in cinemas in the year 1991, but I certainly didn’t enjoy the sequel as much as the first instalment.  So how does this third instalment compare? After all, it’s been over 20 years since the characters have been on screen.

Firstly I’m excited to share that actors Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves still carry such fantastic chemistry on screen that it is easily the most vital element of the film and what gains the most laughs from me.  The plot here is quite different, but the journey itself does feel slightly familiar as a time-travelling film.  Bill And Ted Face The Music does have a rather enjoyable beat and pacing.  It’s never really dull either because something is happening at every moment. Actresses Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy-Paine also bring a fun presence to the big screen as they play the daughters of Bill And Ted.

Fans of Bill and Teds will be pleased to find many familiar faces returning once again, not to mention the typical jokes and one-liners.  I found myself quite delighted that filmmakers paid extra attention even to the minor details that only loyal fans would notice while viewing these films.  For example, the background of Bill And Ted’s garage is full of memories.

The audio and visuals of Face The Music are also most pleasing, but as a film that contains rock and roll, I sadly didn’t find myself enjoying any significant musical numbers or the soundtrack in general like the two previous films.

While the pacing in Bill and Ted Face The Music is enjoyable, the style is a repeated one which some movie lovers may not enjoy as much.  The third act is also super cheesy and over the top and I couldn’t help thinking that it was slightly weaker when comparing the previous films and given the extraordinarily bodacious journey the two great ones had taken to get to this finale.  Perhaps I had high hopes for something else being a fan of the series, but this is more of a personal feeling and not a negative of the film.  Some of the movie reveals are most undoubtedly predictable, but once again, it’s still fun.

Overall, Bill & Ted Face The Music is a welcomed and positive third instalment.  Considering it’s been over 20 years since we’ve last seen Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves together, the actors prove they still have great chemistry on screen.  The film is very honouring to fans with many characters returning, and the directors and writers have made great details.  The world also expands with new characters which was fun to see.  The plot too is entertaining, but the process is a repeated one once the viewers understand the structure of the film.  However, I can’t deny how much fun I still had with this film.   So my advice is this, be excellent to each other, grab your best dude and watch this movie because sometimes brainless movies can change your world for the positive.
