Agatha Christie’s Marple: Series 1 – 3 (2004)

An elderly lady named Miss Marple (Geraldine McEwan) finds herself consistently in the middle of murder mysteries. In most cases, Miss Marple gets involved because by luck, she finds herself at the same location of a murder or sometimes people seek her out for assistance. Miss Marple isn’t a detective by any means, but she is undoubtedly someone who is quite clever, especially when it comes to keeping an eye out for fine details. Miss Marple will generally discover secrets and clues that are missed during a severe murder investigation. Each episode has a beautiful setup, and the pacing held my attention every step of the way.

Thanks to ViaVision Entertainment, Miss Marple Seasons 1 – 3 have recently been re-released on DVD with a 12 Disc collection, each episode featuring a movie-length mystery. As a bonus, the set also includes eight behind-the-scenes featurettes. As a DVD release, I was quite surprised at how positive the visuals looked with a stunning aspect ratio of 16:9. For those who enjoy reading, you’ll be happy to know the entire collection also features English Subtitles.

Geraldine McEwan is just fantastic in this role. The character is incredibly likeable and believable as she uncovers each murder. To my surprise, the actress also brings a touch of humour which I found quite pleasing. The series also includes many well-known actors including Derek Jacobi, Ian Richardson, Joanna Lumley, Zoe Wanamaker, Timothy Dalton, Jane Seymour, George Cole, Robert Powell, Tom Baker, Richard E. Grant and many more!

Overall, if you’re in the mood for a solid thriller and murder mystery, I highly recommend Miss Marple DVD Boxset Series 1 – 3. Each movie-length episode contains well-known actors bringing the stories to life. As a DVD release, I was quite impressed with the visuals and bonus behind the scenes feature. For fans of Miss Marple or Agatha Christie, this is a must-own.
