I’d be astonished if you’d never heard of the legendary actor Tom Cruise. In the present day, the name Tom Cruise means everything. For some, he was a heartthrob discovered in the 80s with his boyish charms, or perhaps you consider him one of the most incredible action heroes to ever appear on screen. In the present day, Tom Cruise is a man of many talents. He is an actor, producer, and the ultimate thrill-seeker.
To better understand Tom Cruise and his career, we return to where it all started. We learn how Tom got discovered and earned roles that would become a solid stepping stone for even more incredible things. However, when it comes to his personal life, things haven’t always been easy, and regarding some of Tom’s biggest films, what if I told you they weren’t always well-received and deemed a success, especially during a time when superheroes were all the rage? Thankfully, Tom never gave up and continually worked hard on each film he worked on, giving everything he had, including total commitment and every ounce of energy within him.
“Tom Cruise: The Last Movie Star” (2023) is a documentary film that looks at the highs and lows of the wild career of Tom Cruise. The film takes its audience on a journey starting when Tom first appeared in a big motion picture, which caught the eyes of many viewers and would soon lead to working with many well-known directors and actors to enhance his craft. Thankfully, this film isn’t just about Tom Cruise’s highlights with his significant blockbusters. At various points, the film also mentions when challenges appeared, heartbreaks occurred, and significant disappointments entered his life.

At the same time, I would always consider myself a movie buff and familiar with Tom Cruise’s films and his personal life; plenty of moments here did stun and surprise me, including major blockbusters that were deemed a failure at the box office. If you were hoping for the documentary to take a dive deep into the actor’s involvement in past relationships or areas of his personal life, you might be disappointed as these topics are only briefly touched on. At its core, the film focuses on Tom Cruise’s long journey of climbing to the top of his game and becoming an action star who is now fulfilling his wildest dreams in cinema. There is plenty of footage and various clips of the celebrity himself but also from the many films within his stunning career.
Overall, whether you are a fan of Tom Cruise or not, I can’t deny it; this is a highly informative and well-made documentary. Focusing on the entire film career and journey of Tom Cruise right from where it all started, plenty of insights and details did surprise and inform me, such as significant blockbusters being deemed cinematic failures. Still, it’s also a celebration and an encouragement of what one man has achieved, even during some of the biggest challenges.
